The Perfect Basil Kit from Anthropology (Giveaway)

I bought my first plants last weekend and put my hands in fresh potting soil once again. As much as I love fall, this time of year has it’s own allure and there is nothing like that sense of satisfaction after a long day of working a garden or filling your porch full of pots.

One of the best things about spring is that I always have an abundance of basil on hand. It’s easy to grow and a little bit goes a long way so you can keep it going for a long time with the right amount of light, moderate temperature, a little water and a prayer (or two if you’re like me). Have you ever walked into a kitchen and taken a whiff of fresh basil? This is what I call a spiritual experience. Not unlike that first sip of wine after you walk through the front door on a Friday night. Can you tell that it is Thursday night as I am writing this post and I am just a little bit ready for the weekend to begin?

I was looking through the Anthropology website last night and saw this precious basil kit and thought it would make the best gift ever. And so it shall be. From me to you. Or at least, one of you. Just tell me what you’re going to whip up with your basil and I’ll enter you in the giveaway. And if you’re not a subscriber be sure to do that too. The winner will be chosen at random by noon on Sunday.

This kit is super cool. All you have to do is cut up the artful piece of paper that comes with the kit, put it a pot and cover with soil. Water according to the directions and place in a sunny windowsill. Viola! You will have basil to take you through spring. When she gets too big for her britches and summer has finally arrived just take the whole shebang outside and transfer carefully to a bigger pot or to a nice spot in your garden. Basil will be your friend all summer long.

May the best basil lover win!

I love tearing up fresh basil leaves into just about any pasta dish. I also make pesto, and use it to spread on crusty bread, drizzle into soups, and stir into hot spaghetti.

You can’t go wrong with a simple caprese salad, and since the sun’s finally decided to show itself, I’m craving salad, so that’s what I’d make! 🙂

I think the favorite thing in our house with basil is the garlic basil parm popovers.
