The Lull Of Summer Time is Here At Last

I can hardly believe that the lazy days of summer have finally arrived and spring has sprung itself silly until there’s nothing left in it’s arsenal. Birthdays have come and gone, graduations, weddings, Memorial Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day…they’ve all come and gone.

Now it’s time to kick back where it’s cool and take long naps on weekend afternoons with the curtains pulled tight and the A/C turned low. It’s the perfect time to browse your Nook or make a trip to the book store to pick up those books you’ve been meaning to read since things got busy last spring. Trips to the pool will be made early in the day and young mothers will spend quiet time in dark, cool movie theaters with sun kissed children. If I close my eyes I can still smell the chlorine wafting from their little heads as they reached across my lap to scoop more popcorn into their dixie cups from the jumbo size everyone had to share.

As for me this weekend, I’m going to dig into my mom’s cookbook archives, roll up my sleeves and do some pickling with what’s left of the organic produce I came home with last weekend. I have some lovely pickling cucumbers and I thought I would hit the farmer’s market tomorrow and add to them a little bit so that I can make some spicy bread and butter pickles. Mom used to make the most awesome Jalapeno Jelly but I’m not sure I’m up for that as the fumes that the peppers put off are down right lethal. I’ll probably stick to pickles.

Who knows what else I’ll come up with but it promises to be a nice, long, lazy weekend and I see a book and a nap in my future. How about you?

Enjoy whatever the weekend has in store for you…and happy cooking!

It’s a half-active half-lazy first of the summer weekend for me. One thing’s for sure though. The air conditioner will get a workout. 🙂
